Roger and Barbara Powell Scholarship for Nursing

SUMMARY:
Our Scholarships Team at Greater Houston Community Foundation is excited to share about a scholarship opportunity available to the BSN nursing students at your college!

The Roger and Barbara Powell Scholarship for Nursing is officially open and accepting applications at this time. This scholarship opportunity is for BSN students who previously graduated from a Texas high school in one of the eligible rural counties.

$2000-$4000

DEADLINES:
March 31, 2025
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant Requirements:
• Applicant MUST have graduated from Texas high school in a county with a population of less than 60,000 people
o To confirm if your high school falls within one of the eligible Texas counties, please refer to the following link: List of Eligible Texas Counties 2025.
o Preference given to students from Brenham High School
Degree Requirements:
• Applicant MUST be granted admission into a nursing program for the upcoming academic year OR currently enrolled in one of the following nursing programs:
o RN degree at a public Texas community college
o BSN degree at a public Texas university
• Must be attending a public college in Texas
o Students attending a private or for-profit institution are not eligible for this scholarship.
• Must have proof of admission into an RN or BSN nursing program at a Texas nursing school
o Pre-nursing, allied health, biology, or other undergraduate majors not within an official nursing school are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
• Minimum cumulative GPA to apply: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted)

• One (1) recommendation form (completed by your reference through the application site)
