Dr. Alfred Poindexter Endowment Scholarship
After receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Kansas State University in 1945, Dr. Alfred N. Poindexter, Jr., D.V.M., joined the Prairie View A&M University faculty in the School of Agriculture, later renamed the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences, where he taught animal science and practiced veterinary medicine for 59 years. In 1992, the Commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture selected him as one of the four most outstanding Black agriculturists in the State of Texas. In 1996, Dr. Poindexter was inducted into the Texas Heritage of Honor. That same year, the president of Prairie View A&M established the Dr. Alfred N. Poindexter Scholarships, endowed in the amount of $300,000.
